It's best to shave in the morning, right after showering and before breakfast: your hair, which is mainly made of keratin, will be softer and easier to cut, and your facial skin will be less sensitive. Prepare your shaving cream by filling your brush with soap or shaving cream. Using products called shaving preparations serves a dual purpose: first, it improves hair hydration by removing the fatty layer (sebum), and second, it protects the skin from harsh razor blades. Run your brush under warm water and work the soap or a small amount of shaving cream into the bowl (without mashing the hairs) until you get a thick, creamy lather. Apply it to your face in circular motions for one to two minutes to soften and smooth the hairs.
